A pharmacy people need to find in a hurry
A pharmacy is not a shop people browse. They are looking for it — often quickly, often outside normal working hours, and often from a car. That makes two things matter more than they would on an ordinary shop front: the green cross has to be obvious, and the whole sign has to still work once it gets dark.
Alcombe Pharmacy sits on the ground floor of a residential building with flats above, so the sign also had to sit comfortably under the windows without overwhelming the building — a clean horizontal band rather than anything oversized.
One scheme across the whole frontage
Rather than treating the fascia as a standalone sign, we worked across the full shop front so everything matched — the main sign, the windows, the door and even the parking sign at the side all use the same dark background, the same green and the same cross.
- Illuminated fascia sign — "ALCOMBE" in white, "PHARMACY" in green, on a dark panel spanning the full width of the frontage
- Illuminated green cross — set in a white ring between the two words, so the pharmacy symbol reads instantly
- Green LED trim — a lit line along the top and bottom edges of the fascia, framing the sign after dark
- Window graphics — matching green crosses applied to the side window panes
- Door vinyl — pharmacy name applied to the automatic entrance doors
- Customer parking sign — a smaller panel in the same branding, so the car park is clearly theirs
A shop front that works at both ends of the day
In daylight the dark fascia gives the white and green lettering plenty of contrast, so it reads cleanly against a pale render building. At night the lettering, the cross and the edge trim all light up, and the illuminated crosses in the windows carry the branding down to eye level — useful on a frontage set back behind a car park.
The client liked the result enough to use the night shot in their own advertising, which is usually the clearest sign a shop front has done its job.
Thinking about the same?Illuminated signs for pharmacies and healthcare
Pharmacies, dentists and healthcare premises have the same problem in common — people need to find you when you are closed as often as when you are open, and there is usually a symbol or a colour you have to get right. We handle the design, manufacture and installation ourselves, so the fascia, the windows and any secondary signs are made as one scheme rather than pieced together.
We work across Bristol and the wider South West, including Somerset. Send us a photo of your shop front and we'll come back with ideas and a free quote.
